Pastor Denis Boris - Kazakhstan - Ministry Update

Dear Friends,

We had a great Christmas service and home-group. It was good to pause my series of sermons on 1 Timothy and Philippians and direct our attention to the event that made salvation possible. All too often we take the incarnation for granted whereas in reality it is the wonder of wonders. There were some unbelievers and old friends who showed up at Christmas. We pray that God would convict the hearts of those who view Christmas void of Christ as something worth celebrating. At our Christmas home-group we had a festive dinner, sang carols, heard a message on incarnation and played fun games. It was great to see different ethnicities, ages and educational backgrounds unite as Christ’s body to celebrate their Savior. I love our small church.

Christmas gathering

The women of our church have decided to start gathering together to study the Bible. They are using Keri Folmar’s Bible study on James for women. There were 9 ladies who came to the first meeting. Many of them showed great interest in the study of the Word of God. It is so encouraging to see people come together first and foremost for the sake of the Bible. Fellowship, food and fun are good gifts from God but we fully realize that none of them can become the foundation of true friendship, love and life itself.

There are 3 goals set for this Bible study. The first is to study the Word of God and grow closer in one’s relationship with God; the second is to get to know each other better and grow in friendship; and the third, is to evangelize. There was one unbeliever who came to the first meeting. Please pray that Maranatha’s Women Bible Study will glorify God and serve the ladies.

This week we met with a couple that used to be on staff of one prosperity gospel church in town. They left the church 2 years ago bitter and disillusioned. We met and spoke for 5 hours straight. It was a difficult and yet immensely encouraging conversation. They came to our church the last week of 2017. We hope to start discipling them. I gave them the books “9 Marks of a Healthy Church” and “Knowing God”. Please pray for Levon and Violetta to come back to the Lord and possibly join our church.

Please pray for us, that...

  • We would be patient and wait upon the Lord
  • God would bless our partnership with Bagid and brothers from Taraz
  • I would pray more
  • We would be bold in sharing the Gospel with the unbelievers (here are the names of some: Bahytzhan, Mark, Christian and my brother Igor)
  • God would be glorified in our conversations and meetings with others (Levon, Violetta)
  • God would bless our discipleship efforts (Nurmuhan, Oleg, Ilya)
  • God would be glorified through our translation project
  • God would build his church in Kazakhstan
